Antony Starr, known for his role as Homelander in the hit Amazon Prime series "The Boys," is set to ride the waves as the lead in Netflix's new series "Breakers." The show follows two American friends who embark on a backpacking trip in Australia, only to be drawn into a seemingly perfect surfing community led by the enigmatic Brando, played by Starr.
Production has already begun in Western Australia, marking the first time a Netflix series will shoot in the region. Director Mary Nighy ("Say Nothing," "Industry") and Ng Choon Ping ("What It Feels Like For A Girl," "Femme") are at the helm of the show, which is being produced by BBC Studios-owned Clerkenwell Films alongside BBC Studios Productions Australia.
Starr's latest role comes after a five-season run as Homelander on Amazon Prime Video's "The Boys." He recently wrapped production on Neon's "Samo Lives," in which he'll play Andy Warhol. His diverse filmography also includes Netflix's "Banshee" and Amazon's "G20."
Filming is set to wrap in June, with "Breakers" being the first Netflix series to utilize Western Australia as a shooting location, supported by local tax incentives. The show's writer, Pete Jackson ("The Death of Bunny Munro," "Somewhere Boy"), brings his signature style to the script, while executive producers Gavin O'Grady, Petra Fried, Wim De Greef, and Jackson oversee the production.
As Starr takes on a new character in "Breakers," fans can't help but wonder what's next for this talented actor. With his diverse range of roles under his belt, it's clear that Starr is capable of taking on any part that comes his way.
