Israeli military veterans, a backbone of protest movement, vow to keep demonstrating | CNN

In a show of solidarity and determination, hundreds of thousands of Israeli military veterans, many from elite forces, have taken to the streets for the 13th week in a row, protesting the government's judicial overhaul plan. Yiftach Golov, a veteran who served in special forces reconnaissance during the second intifada, is among them. He proudly carries a brown flag representing the group "Brother and Sisters in Arms," which has become a symbol of resistance against what many see as an erosion of democracy.

"We believe this is our responsibility to go once again called to the flag of the nation to stop this madness to defend Israel," Golov said, his voice filled with conviction. The group's message is clear: they will no longer stand idly by while their country's democratic institutions are threatened.

For many veterans like Golov, the decision to join the protest movement was not taken lightly. They have come from backgrounds of discipline and duty, where sacrifice was expected and obedience was paramount. But as the government's plans for judicial reform were unveiled, something shifted. Many realized that they could no longer remain silent in the face of what they saw as a threat to Israel's very foundations.

The group's actions are not merely symbolic; many have taken concrete steps to demonstrate their commitment. Some elite reservists have refused to train or serve, citing concerns about the government's plans for judicial reform. Others have organized protests and demonstrations, using skills learned in the military to mobilize and organize.

But despite these efforts, the government has not shown much willingness to listen. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has delayed votes on the legislation, claiming it was necessary "for the security of Israel." However, many protesters remain skeptical, believing that this is simply a stalling tactic to give Netanyahu breathing room before plowing ahead with the reforms.

As the protests continue, Golov and his fellow veterans remain resolute. They are not just fighting for their own country; they are fighting for the values that once made it great. "We're fighting for justice and liberty," Golov said, his voice filled with conviction. "That's the values that our flag represents. We reclaim the flag."

πŸ€• this is so brave of these vets to stand up 4 what they believe in, especially after serving their country like that... it's crazy how gov'ts try 2 silence them & push through with reforms without listenin 2 ppl's concerns πŸ’” u feel like they're fightin 4 the same values we got here too... justice & liberty are fundamental 🌎

🀯 this is insane what is going on in Israel, a bunch of military vets taking to the streets just to stop some government plan πŸš«πŸ’” and I gotta admit, I'm kinda impressed by their conviction πŸ‘Š Golov seems like a total boss for speaking truth to power πŸ’ͺ and I love that they're using their skills from the military to organize and mobilize 🀝 it's not easy to stand up to your country's leaders, but these guys are doing just that πŸ’ͺ

I'm following this protest movement and I gotta say, it's really concerning what's going on in Israel πŸ€•. These military veterans are putting their lives on hold to stand up for something they believe in - democracy πŸ’ͺ. It's amazing to see them using their skills to mobilize and organize protests, but at the same time, it's worrying that the government isn't taking their concerns seriously πŸ€”. I think this is a great example of people taking a stand against what they see as an erosion of democratic values. The fact that they're carrying a flag representing "Brother and Sisters in Arms" shows how strong their sense of community and responsibility is πŸ‘«.

🀝 Can't believe these Israeli veterans are speaking out against their gov's plans to overhaul the judicial system... they're literally risking everything, including their own careers & freedoms πŸ’₯. I mean, it's not just about them tho - what does this say about Israel's democratic foundations? πŸ€” The fact that Netanyahu is stalling votes on the legislation is pretty shady too 🚫. What are we supposed to think here? Is it just a power struggle or is there something more at play? 🀝

πŸ™ This is what happens when you put your military pride in front of democracy πŸ˜’. I mean, who needs judicial oversight when you've got veterans with a score to settle? It's all about ego and control at this point 🚫. The government is just playing politics with the lives of its citizens, and these vets are caught right up in it πŸ’”. I'm not buying the "security" excuse – if that was really the priority, they'd be addressing actual security concerns, not trying to manipulate public opinion πŸ‘€.

I mean, I'm not saying I disagree with these Israeli military vets but I've been reading about this whole thing online and I think it's kinda weird they're using a brown flag like some sort of symbol πŸ€”. I get that they want to show solidarity and all but shouldn't they be working behind the scenes or something instead of causing a scene on the streets? And what's with the "Brother and Sisters in Arms" thing, sounds pretty clichΓ© to me πŸ˜’. Also, I'm not sure I agree with their whole "reclaiming the flag" idea, that just sounds like a bunch of patriotic nonsense πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Can't they just, like, talk to Netanyahu or something and try to find some common ground?

man this is insane... 200k+ Israeli military vets marching together, no joke 🀯 i'm seeing a lot of these vids on tiktok and they're all so passionate about defending their country's democracy 😊 but at the same time you can tell there's some heavy skepticism towards the gov's motives - like, what's really going on here? πŸ€” and the pics of those guys carrying flags, it's actually pretty cool... i love how the "Brother and Sisters in Arms" flag is becoming this symbol of resistance πŸ’ͺ but seriously though, the government not listening to these vets' concerns is a major red flag 🚨

🀝🏻 I feel so sorry for these Israeli military veterans, they really are in a tough spot. It's crazy how one plan can evoke such strong feelings from people who have dedicated their lives to serving their country 🀯. They're not just fighting for themselves, but for the values that made Israel great πŸ’ͺ. The government needs to listen and take this seriously, it's not just about security, it's about the future of democracy in Israel πŸ‘Š.

🀝 it's crazy to think about these military veterans taking a stand like this... i mean, they've risked their lives for their country before, and now they're fighting for its future? 🚨 it's not just about the judicial overhaul plan, it's about the values that are being lost along the way. as someone who's watched these protests from the sidelines, i think what's striking is how united everyone seems to be... across different backgrounds and ideologies, they're all coming together for a common cause 🀝🌎

I'm so worried about these vets πŸ€•. I mean, who doesn't want to see democracy thrive in Israel? It's crazy that some folks are trying to change the system like they own the place. These veterans have risked their lives for this country and now they're standing up for what they believe in πŸ’ͺ. They're not just fighting for themselves, but for the values that made Israel great – justice and liberty 🌟. I wish PM Netanyahu would listen to them and work together instead of trying to stall things. The fact that some reservists are refusing to train or serve is a big deal πŸ”₯. It shows they won't back down. My heart goes out to Golov and all the others who are taking a stand πŸ’•.

πŸ€” I'm so sick of these protests! Like, I get it, they wanna defend Israel and all that jazz... but can't they just chill for a sec? πŸ™„ 13 weeks of protesting? That's like, a whole lotta time spent on some issues. And what's with the brown flag? Sounds like a super vague slogan to me... "Brother and Sisters in Arms"... sounds like something you'd see in a fantasy novel or somethin' πŸ“š

And I'm so done with Netanyahu just stalling on this stuff. It's like, come on man! Make a decision already! Don't use national security as an excuse to just avoid the issue... that's some weak sauce if you ask me πŸ˜’
