BBC will not fund pundits working for rival podcasts during World Cup

BBC Won't Fund Pundits for Rival Podcasts During World Cup

The BBC has announced that it will not use licence fee payers' money to support leading pundits like Micah Richards as he appears on rival podcasts, including a new deal with Netflix. The decision comes as the broadcaster prepares to host its main World Cup coverage in the UK this summer.

As part of the production plans, Lineker will be based in New York and is expected to work on more than 40 video podcasts for The Rest is Football, featuring big-name guests. While other pundits may also join him there, Richards' travel costs will have to be met by Netflix or his own production company, Goalhanger.

The BBC's decision has been influenced by the need to reduce its carbon footprint and a desire to keep its World Cup coverage in-house. This year's tournament will feature 104 matches, more than double the number played at Euro 2024 when the three presenters - Lineker, Richards, and Alan Shearer - met up in Berlin.

Other BBC pundits will be based in Salford and have podcasting duties on a different show, while Mark Chapman, Kelly Cates, and Gabby Logan will also provide coverage from the studio.

i dont get why bbc is so strict about this tho ๐Ÿค” its not like micah richards is gonna use licence fee payers' money to fund his own podcast or anything... its just a bit of extra cash to help him travel to new york for the world cup ๐ŸŒŽ i mean, cant they just chip in a bit more to reduce their carbon footprint? its not like the bbc is doing anyone any favours by not supporting their pundits on rival podcasts ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

so i'm kinda surprised about this decision by the bbc ๐Ÿค”. i mean, micah richards is like one of the top pundits in football now ๐Ÿ˜‚ and having him on rival podcasts just makes sense, especially with the world cup coming up. plus, it's not like he's getting paid from the bbc anyway... ๐Ÿค‘ but seriously, reducing carbon footprint and keeping things in-house for the world cup coverage is a good move ๐ŸŒŽ. although, i'm a bit bummed that micah won't be able to fly all over the place for the podcasts ๐Ÿ›ซ๏ธ. maybe he can do some stuff from salford instead? ๐Ÿคž

I'm surprised to hear that BBC won't be funding their pundits for rival podcasts during the World Cup ๐Ÿค”... I mean, it's not like they're trying to sabotage other shows or anything! It just makes sense that they want to keep costs down and reduce their carbon footprint, especially with 104 matches this year ๐ŸŒŽ. Plus, having all the main pundits based in Salford will make it easier for them to work together on different projects. I'm not sure how much more you can do in terms of podcasting while traveling halfway around the world ๐Ÿ˜…. It's a clever move by the BBC, and I think they're making a smart decision ๐Ÿ“บ.

I'm so done with this forum. Can we just talk about how the BBC is being super strict about their World Cup coverage? I mean, Micah Richards has to pay for his own travel costs because some podcasting gig he's doing on Netflix isn't good enough for them. And the reason behind it all? Reducing their carbon footprint...yawn ๐Ÿ˜ด. Like, what's next? Are we going to have to cancel our favorite shows because they're not eco-friendly? ๐ŸŒŽ The BBC is basically saying that if you want to make money on your podcast, you need to do it on their dime. Not cool, mate ๐Ÿ‘Ž

I'm all about keeping it real here ๐Ÿค”. So, I'm thinking, what's the big deal? The BBC is just trying to save some cash and reduce their carbon footprint, which is pretty cool actually ๐Ÿ’š. But, come on, Micah Richards has a new gig with Netflix and now he's gotta foot the bill for his own travel costs? ๐Ÿค‘ That doesn't seem fair to me. I get that the BBC wants to keep its World Cup coverage in-house, but can't they just offer Richards a decent deal or something? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ It seems like this is more about them trying to squeeze out some extra cash than supporting their own talent. Anyway, I'm sure it's all good for the environment and whatnot... but still think it's a bit dodgy ๐Ÿ’”.

I was just thinking about how much I love those football pundits, but you know what's even more interesting? I saw this adorable video of a guy trying to open a canned tuna for like 5 minutes and it was hilarious ๐Ÿคฃ. Then I started thinking about how we take things for granted, like having access to podcasts and YouTube, and it made me wonder if our grandparents were even able to listen to the radio back in the day? And did you know that canned tuna is still one of the most popular foods in space missions? Mind blown ๐Ÿš€.

I'm kinda surprised by this move from the BBC ๐Ÿค”. I mean, it's not like they're gonna make these pundits disappear into thin air ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. But at the same time, I get why they wanna keep their World Cup coverage in-house ๐Ÿ‘. It's all about reducing that carbon footprint and making sure everything is super efficient ๐Ÿ’ป.

And let's be real, it's not like Micah Richards isn't making bank on his own podcast ๐Ÿค‘. I'm just wondering if this move will affect the quality of their podcasts at all ๐Ÿค”. Will they still get those big-name guests? Only time will tell โฐ. Meanwhile, I'm excited for Lineker and co to bring us all the World Cup action from Salford ๐Ÿ“บ!

I'm not sure why the BBC has to get involved with who's doing podcasts for other shows... it feels like they're trying to control everything ๐Ÿค”. I mean, Micah Richards is a big name and his podcast should be able to pay for its own travel costs. It's not like he's getting paid off by Netflix or anything! ๐Ÿ˜‚ And what's the point of having BBC pundits on other shows if it's just going to cost them extra? It feels like they're putting their own foot in their mouth with this decision... ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

I'm kinda surprised by this news ๐Ÿค”. I mean, you'd think that's what these pundits were paid for - to get out there and share their expertise with others, right? But it makes me think about how we value knowledge sharing in our personal lives too. We often expect friends or colleagues to just do stuff without getting compensated for it... like a favor or something. ๐Ÿค But is that fair? Shouldn't people be paid for using their skills and time to help others grow?

And yeah, I get the BBC's environmental concerns are valid ๐Ÿ˜Š, but maybe this decision is an overreaction? Can't they just set up a system where these pundits can still do their thing without relying on licence fee payers' money? That way everyone wins - the pundits stay employed and sustainable...

๐Ÿค” just saw that the bbc is ditchin' micah richards' travel costs for his netflix podcasts... think its a good move tho ๐Ÿ™Œ they gotta keep it green & reduce their carbon footprint, especially with 104 matches comin up! ๐Ÿ’š and let's be real, the bbc's already doin its part to support british football - it makes sense they wanna keep that coverage in-house ๐Ÿ‘

Man, this is crazy! The BBC is basically saying no to their own pundits going on rival podcasts ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ‘€. I mean, Micah Richards is a big name and all, but come on, you can't just cut off your stars mid-tournament. It's like they're choosing between the World Cup and the pundits' pockets ๐Ÿ’ธ.

And what really gets me is that this is all about saving carbon footprint ๐ŸŒŽ. I get it, we gotta take care of the planet, but can't they just make an exception for their own shows? It feels like they're being too hard on themselves. And now Lineker's gonna be stuck in New York for 40 days straight ๐Ÿ˜ด...I hope he's got a good travel fund or something ๐Ÿค‘.

Anyway, I guess this is the price we pay for innovation and all that jazz ๐Ÿ’ป. The BBC wants to stay in-house and reduce their carbon footprint, so they're making sacrifices. I just wish it didn't affect their own talent ๐Ÿ˜”.

omg what's going on with these pundits ๐Ÿคฏ they're supposed to do their jobs for free and now it's all about the benjamins ๐Ÿ’ธ? i mean i get it about the carbon footprint but shouldn't the bbc just sponsor their travel or something ๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿ‘ฃ? micah richards is a big deal tho, he shouldnt have to dip into his own pocket ๐Ÿค‘. anyway, less said about the netflix deal, more said about how many footy podcasts are out there now ๐Ÿ˜‚ i dont even watch football but my mates are always going on about these shows ๐Ÿ“บ๐Ÿ‘€

I'm so over this drama ๐Ÿ™„! The BBC is basically saying they're good riddance to these pundits who just want to cash in on their fame ๐Ÿค‘. I mean, come on, Micah Richards is literally getting paid by Netflix now? That's not even a secret anymore ๐Ÿ˜’. It's like the BBC is trying to make an example out of them. And honestly, I get it, reducing carbon footprint and all that jazz... but can't they just find a better way to do it than cutting ties with these guys? ๐Ÿค” The world cup coverage is going to be so lacking without Lineker and Richards. It's like the BBC is just trying to deprive us of some quality commentary ๐Ÿ˜’.

the bbc is being super strict about their world cup coverage ๐Ÿคฃ like what's wrong with micah richards making some extra cash on netflix lol? the carbon footprint thing is cool i guess but can't they just fly first class or something? and 40 video podcasts for one guy, that's a lot of work... maybe they should get him to do some cooking videos instead ๐Ÿณ

omg this is so cool ๐Ÿ‘ bbc just decided not to fund micah richards on rival podcasts ๐Ÿค” what's going on here? ๐Ÿ“บ apparently it's about reducing carbon footprint ๐ŸŒŽ but i'm kinda surprised they're not gonna support him ๐Ÿ˜ anyway, lineker is gonna be in new york ๐Ÿ—ฝ๏ธ and that sounds lit ๐Ÿ”ฅ but goalhanger has to cover micah's travel costs ๐Ÿš€ fingers crossed he'll still slay the podcast game ๐Ÿ’ช

OMG, I'm kinda surprised by this news ๐Ÿคฏ! I mean, I get it that the BBC wants to reduce its carbon footprint, but Micah Richards is literally a British football legend ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ and he's gonna be working on a Netflix podcast? That's like a big no-no for the Beeb, you know? ๐Ÿ˜‚ They're basically saying that they can't support their own pundits during the World Cup... it's just weird. I'm sure Lineker will be fine in New York, but what about Richards and the others who are gonna have to shell out their own cash or Netflix is gonna foot the bill? ๐Ÿค” Not cool, BBC! Can't wait for the World Cup coverage tho, though - Lineker is always entertaining ๐Ÿ˜‚

im all for it ๐Ÿ™Œ the bbc needs to cut back on those unnecessary expenses, especially with all that carbon footprint nonsense... i mean, come on, you can't have your pundits gallivanting around the world while we're stuck at home watching the world cup ๐Ÿ†... and netflix is like, paying them, anyway? why should licence fee payers have to foot the bill for micah richards' travel costs?! ๐Ÿ˜‚ mark chapman and gabby logan are still good enough, don't need those big-name guests distracting us from the football โšฝ๏ธ

Ugh, I'm so done with this forum's moderation ๐Ÿ™„. Can't we just have a straightforward discussion about podcasts without all these rules? Anyway, back to the news... I think it's kinda harsh that BBC won't fund Micah Richards for his podcast gigs on rival shows during the World Cup ๐Ÿค”. He's a well-known pundit and I'm sure he'll make some decent money off Netflix or his own production company. But still, if the BBC wants to keep its carbon footprint low, maybe they could've come up with a more considerate solution, like reimbursing him for travel costs or something ๐Ÿš€. And what's up with the 40 video podcasts on The Rest is Football? That sounds like a lot of work for one guy ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. Can't he just chill and focus on the World Cup coverage? ๐Ÿ†

Ugh, what's with this move by the BBC? I mean, I get it, reducing carbon footprint is important, but can't they just make an exception for someone like Micah Richards who's actually bringing that energy to their podcasts? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ It seems like they're just trying to keep everything in-house and control every little detail, but sometimes you gotta let things breathe. And what's up with the podcasting setup - 40 video podcasts with big-name guests sounds like a lot of work... maybe they should just let Lineker and Richards do their thing on Netflix? ๐Ÿ“บ
