Amazon to close all Fresh grocery stores, including one in Northern Liberties that opened in August

Amazon is Shutting Down Its Fresh Grocery Stores Nationwide as It Focuses on Whole Foods and Speedier Delivery.

In a statement this week, Amazon revealed that it will be closing all of its 58 Fresh grocery stores across the US by February 1. This move comes as the company looks to expand its Whole Foods Market chain and invest in its speedier grocery delivery service. While Amazon Fresh first launched in Los Angeles back in 2020, it's been struggling to gain traction.

According to Amazon, its Amazon-branded physical grocery stores haven't yet created a "truly distinctive customer experience" with the right economic model needed for large-scale expansion. This news has left customers and employees of the Fresh stores concerned about their futures. However, not all Fresh locations will be closing – some will be converted into Whole Foods Markets.

Amazon plans to open over 100 new Whole Foods stores in the coming years, which is a significant increase from its current number of more than 550 stores since it acquired the chain in 2017. The company has seen sales growth of over 40% at Whole Foods since its acquisition.

For those who had been waiting for the Amazon Fresh store that opened in Northern Liberties back in August, this news means their local grocery shopping experience is coming to an end. However, customers can still shop online and have groceries delivered same-day through Amazon's delivery services.

Amazon has announced plans to offer new roles to former Fresh employees within its other divisions, which may provide some stability for those affected by the store closures.

so amazon is just ditchin their fresh grocery stores πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ like it was a bad experiment lol they were strugglin 2 make them profitable and now they're all about expandin Whole Foods and gettin that delivery service done ASAP πŸ’¨. its kinda sad 4 the employees who lost their jobs but idk if anyone really thought Amazon Fresh was gonna be the next big thing πŸ€”. on the bright side, amazon's makin moves to help former Fresh employees find new gigs in other divisions, so tht's a lil somethin πŸ‘

I'm kinda surprised they're shutting down all these Fresh stores lol what happened? I mean, I got my food from Fresh in Boston and it was always on point πŸ€” but I guess Amazon didn't see that same potential everywhere? They gotta admit though, the online grocery thing is pretty convenient so maybe people will just stick to buying their stuff online like they do with Whole Foods now 😊

awww man πŸ€• I'm gonna miss those Amazon Fresh stores they were always so convenient to shop at online and get same day delivery 😊. hope the former Fresh employees find new jobs with amazon they might be able to get into whole foods or another department 🀞

omg did u know that i just tried this new vegan cafe downtown and their matcha lattes r insane 🀯 i mean i was expecting it 2 b good but wow! anyway back 2 amazon news... think they're makin a huge mistake closin all those fresh stores tho. like wut r they gonna do w/ all the employees? can't they just keep some of the good ones and train 'em 2 work @ whole foods or somethin? πŸ€”

The e-commerce behemoth's pivot towards a more focused retail strategy is quite fascinating πŸ€”. It appears that Amazon is prioritizing efficiency and scalability over experimental ventures like Fresh, which has struggled to gain significant traction since its launch in 2020 πŸ“ˆ. The decision to shift resources towards Whole Foods Market, which has seen substantial sales growth since the acquisition, seems like a pragmatic move to capitalize on an existing brand with established customer loyalty πŸ’°. While some employees and customers will undoubtedly face uncertainty, it's heartening to know that Amazon is offering opportunities for former Fresh staff to transition into other roles within the company 🌟. The focus on speedier delivery services also underscores Amazon's commitment to meeting evolving consumer expectations for quick and convenient grocery shopping πŸš€.

omg 🀯 just heard that amazon is shutin down its fresh grocery stores lol what was thinkin? they had a whole food acquisition and now they're fokus on speedier delivery πŸš€ like, i get it but ugh my local amazon fresh in northern liberties is literally the only place i can find organic kale chips 🌿 anyway idc what happens to them cuz i'll just stick to online shopping and same day delivery πŸ›οΈ guess it's good news for former fresh employees tho πŸ‘ maybe they'll land a sweet job at whole foods or amazon 🀞

Ugh man, I'm so down about this πŸ˜”. I remember when I first moved to LA in 2018 and saw that Amazon Fresh was opening up on Sunset Blvd... I thought it was gonna change the game. Fast forward to now and they're just shutting them all down 🀯. I mean, what's wrong with people? You'd think you'd be excited about having a store at your doorstep that delivers fresh produce in like 2 hours πŸ₯•.

And I feel bad for those employees who are losing their jobs πŸ’”. I remember my friend worked at Whole Foods back when it was still a "cool" place to shop πŸ‘—. It's crazy how fast the game has changed and now it seems like Amazon owns everything πŸ€–.

I guess on the bright side, they're gonna open up new Whole Foods locations 🌱, which is awesome for foodies like me πŸ˜‹. But man, I just can't believe the Fresh stores are gone πŸ’”. It's a shame, 'cause I used to love going there to grab some lunch and browse the aisles πŸ›οΈ.

I wonder if we'll ever see another store concept like that again... who knows? Maybe someday we'll get Amazon Go or something πŸ€“

I'm so bummed about Amazon shutting down its Fresh stores πŸ€•... I mean, who doesn't love the convenience of grabbing a fresh salad or a box of organic goodies on their way home from work? It's like they're taking away our very own local mom-and-pop grocery experience. Back in my day, we used to have these quaint little shops on every corner that sold everything from fresh produce to baked goods... it was just so much more personal and community-driven.

Nowadays, with Amazon trying to offer faster delivery speeds, I'm starting to think they're sacrificing the human touch for convenience. And honestly, can you really beat the feeling of walking into a store, smelling all the freshly baked bread and flowers, and chatting with the owner about their latest deals? Not to mention, shopping at Whole Foods just isn't the same as popping into one of those independent grocery stores that support local farmers.

I guess it's great that Amazon is giving former Fresh employees new roles, but I still can't help feeling a little nostalgic for the old days...

Ugh πŸ˜’ I mean, I get it, Amazon wants to focus on making money and growing their business, but it's kinda sad they're shutting down all these Fresh stores πŸ€• They were actually pretty cool! I used to love shopping there when my friends and I would meet up for brunch πŸ³πŸ‘« It's not just about the stores though, it's about the people who worked there too... they deserve some job security πŸ˜” But on the bright side, some of those employees will get a chance to join Amazon in other roles, so that's something ✌️ I guess we'll just have to rely more on online shopping and same-day delivery πŸ“¦πŸ’¨

πŸ€” This decision from Amazon seems so sudden, especially after they invested so much time and resources into their Fresh grocery stores... I mean, 58 locations isn't a bad start πŸ€‘ but maybe they just didn't find the right formula yet? It's not all doom and gloom tho - those who are being laid off can now join the Amazon family under different roles, which is definitely a positive spin πŸ™. And hey, more Whole Foods stores means better quality food for us! πŸ₯— I'm kinda sad that my local Fresh store is shutting down, but I guess same-day delivery isn't so bad after all 😊

OMG, like I just heard the news and I'm low-key disappointed πŸ€•! I mean, who doesn't love a good grocery shop? But at the same time, can you blame Amazon for trying to pivot? I've been saying it for ages, Whole Foods is where it's at πŸ’Έ. They're expanding and making sales grow, and it's no wonder they want to focus on that.

It's sad that all the Fresh stores are closing tho πŸ€—. I mean, some of them will get a new lease on life as Whole Foods, but what about those who aren't so lucky? The thought of all those employees losing their jobs is just crazy 😩. On the bright side, Amazon is trying to support its former Fresh staff by giving them new roles – that's so cool! They're taking care of their own fam πŸ‘.

So yeah, it's a bittersweet day for Amazon fans and shoppers alike πŸ€—. But hey, who knows? Maybe this is just the push we need for more innovative delivery services πŸ’». Fingers crossed!

Ugh, just got that news about Amazon shutting down all their Fresh grocery stores πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ! I mean, I know they're trying to focus on Whole Foods and speedier delivery, but what about us customers who want a proper grocery shopping experience? I've tried shopping at some of the Fresh locations, but they were just so small and limited. And now it looks like we'll have to go back to online shopping or hope that the new Whole Foods stores will be better πŸ€”. It's also kinda sad for all the employees who worked at those Fresh stores... πŸ™

I'm kinda sad about this πŸ€• Amazon shutting down their Fresh grocery stores is a bummer. I mean, who doesn't love having a convenient and speedy shopping experience at your local Amazon location? But I guess it just didn't work out, huh?

On the bright side, it's awesome that they're focusing on Whole Foods now πŸ₯—! Those stores have been doing really well for them and now they get to expand even more. And hey, who knows, maybe this is an opportunity for some people to find new jobs within Amazon? Fingers crossed for everyone affected by the store closures 🀞.

I just wish there was a way for the Fresh locations that are closing to stay open as they are... you know, for those of us who loved shopping at them and had that "Amazon Fresh" experience πŸ˜”. Guess we'll just have to shop online from now on, but hey, at least Amazon's delivery services are still super fast πŸš€!

Ugh, I know some ppl will be salty about this but honestly, Amazon shutting down all their Fresh stores might not be that bad πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Like, we're already having issues with traffic and congestion in cities, do we really need more physical grocery stores cluttering up the streets? πŸ˜’ They can just speed up delivery times instead and make our lives easier πŸ‘. Plus, Whole Foods is a solid brand, I'm stoked to see them expand πŸš€. And let's be real, who needs local grocery shopping when you can get whatever you want delivered in 2 hours with no hassle? πŸ˜‚ Amazon's on the right track, less physical presence means more focus on convenience and innovation πŸ’».

Ugh man, I'm so disappointed about Amazon closing all their Fresh stores πŸ€•. I mean, I get it they're trying to focus on Whole Foods and delivery speed, but can't they see how convenient those little grocery shops were? It's not just about the shopping experience, it's also about supporting local communities and keeping jobs around πŸ’Ό. Now I have to rely on online shopping for my daily essentials and hope that Amazon's delivery service is still on point 🀞. Plus, what's going to happen to all those Fresh employees who are losing their jobs? At least they got a heads up about getting roles in other divisions, but it's not the same as having a steady income πŸ’Έ.

πŸ€” I'm not surprised tbh. I've been saying it for a while now that Amazon Fresh just didn't cut it. They invested so much in this whole grocery thing and it's clear they were trying to compete with the big players like Whole Foods, but in the end, it was always gonna be tough. πŸ’Έ I mean, have you tried ordering from AmazonFresh lately? The prices are crazy and the delivery times can be super slow πŸ•°οΈ. I think it's smart of them to focus on Whole Foods and just deliver those stuff instead. And btw, did you know that they're actually going to offer training to Fresh employees so they can get hired by other departments? 🀝 That's some good karma right there 😊

I'm not entirely surprised about this move... Amazon has been trying to make Whole Foods its main grocery game for a while now 😐. I mean, it makes sense to focus on that side of things since they've seen pretty significant sales growth since the acquisition. But, on the other hand, I feel bad for those Fresh employees who are gonna lose their jobs πŸ€•. It's just another example of how fast Amazon is moving and leaving some people behind. And, to be honest, it kinda feels like a waste since they've had 58 stores up and running... I guess you could say it was just a test run? πŸ“ˆ
